The Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, which has taken roots in India in 1886, directing all its time and energy to the cause of education. Later it has understood the need for social education and social development. So, the Congregation has taken up action oriented social and community development activities for the integrated Development of the people.
SOC SEAD (Sisters of Cross Society for Education Development), the Non-Governmental Social Service Organization is an offshoot of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod established by Rev. Sr. Rita Thyveettill on 26th June 1982 with the Motto” To Love is to Serve is to Love”. It was launched with the broader Mission and Vision of promoting the integral welfare of the downtrodden, neglected and marginalized section of the society. SOC SEAD serves with great commitment and dedication to the needy people from all walks of life irrespective of caste, race, sex and religion.
SOC SEAD was started in a small room at St. Martins Social Centre at Mambalasalai. Sprouting as a small plant, it has stretched out its shoots and roots to several places such as urban, slum and rural (Ayikudi) areas of Trichy District for the upliftment of the poor and marginalized especially women and children. Mrs. Shantha Sheela Nair, IAS the then Collector of Trichy District inaugurated SOC SEAD and laid the foundation stone for the office building.
